The Emotional Spender

The Emotional Spender spends most of their money during times of heightened emotion. The purchase made depends on the emotion felt towards the item. Shopping replaces unwanted emotions with positive emotions and amplifies feelings of happiness.

Three Tips To Deal With Spending As An Emotional Spender

1. Refer To The List

A common reason for shopping is to decrease boredom and/or increase positive emotions. Create a list of activities you love to do so you can choose a less expensive (or free) activity easily

2. Identify Shopping Purpose

Ask yourself what purpose the shopping trip has. Name the reason for your trip. If you can’t, it is likely that you are looking for an emotional solution

3. Know Before You Go

If you don’t know exactly what you are going to buy, don’t go into the store. This goes for each store individually, and not just one shopping trip
